Cars From The '50s Roll Into State Fairgrounds
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) ― Even if you weren't around in the fifties, most people think of it as a more innocent time. That's part of the appeal of the 35th annual Back to the Fifties car show, now through Sunday, June 22 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.Tristan Henderson is at the show with his 1957 Volkswagen. He has changed the engine, suspension, brakes and other things on the car, and it now has more than twice the horsepower it did 50 years ago. It also has a flawless custom paint job and lots of chrome. Still, it's not something you drive if you're looking for fuel economy.
"Probably 15 to 18, so still a little low, but for a hot rod, it's not too bad," said Henderson.
His friend, Peter Anderson, also has a smaller car at the show. It is a 1960 Morris Minor, and it has a very small four cylinder engine.
"This only has about a six gallon gas tank, and I can drive this car all day on six gallons of gas," said Anderson
